New Work – Editorial portrait – Ultra Cyclist, Dominic Irvine for Waitrose Weekend.

January 1, 2019

Before Christmas, I was commissioned to shoot an editorial portrait of Ultra Cyclist, Dominic Irvine for Waitrose Weekend.

By day, Dominic helps blue-chip businesses optimise their performance levels. By applying his training principles to cycling Dominic has cultivated a level of fitness, training regimen and sheer will that has seen him break the tandem record from Lands End to John O’Groats (unbroken 49 years), cycle the tour divide (covering 2,750 miles at altitude from the Atlantic to the Pacific) and ride to Paris from his home for lunch!

In addition, Dominic and his coach, Simon Jobson have summarised the lessons learnt from their research, testing and miles on the saddle ‘into an easily accessible handbook to help those aspiring to ride longer distances achieve their ambitions’.

We shot this picture on Hampshire’s Buster Hill on the cold, windy Friday morning before Christmas. Dom was so positive and gracious with his time and fascinating to talk to. I’m excited to see what Dom does next in his seemingly boundless enthusiasm for endurance, iron will and the cerebral application of his knowledge of endurance stress points into business settings.
